First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Participant Media.
Social Action Coordinator
I had a preliminary phone interview with a recruiter that was very brief. She only asked me two questions: tell me about yourself and what salary do you want. After our nine minute interview, she said she would let me know by Friday if I was selected for a second round, and that she would get back to me either way. By the following Wednesday, I followed up by email and phone, but she never responded. I found this to be rude and careless.
- Can you introduce yourself?
- What are your salary expectations?
Ruby Developer
It was a good interview experience. The people were really nice. I talked to 3 developers and 4 managers. The technical questions were not difficult. The managers were friendly and seemed genuinely interested in me. It didn't feel like they saw employees as just cogs in a machine. The overall vibe of the place was great. It looked like a nice place to work. I asked about employee benefits, and they were great: gym access at the office and 401k matching.
- The questions were all pretty standard.
- There were no unexpected questions, but they also didn't just ask all the typical questions.
Intern
It was a 2-step interview process. First, I had an interview with my boss, which was pretty relaxed and focused on talking about myself and my experience. They also asked what I knew about Participant. I got an email and scheduled an in-person interview right away. Then, about a week or almost two weeks later, I was called in again for a second interview with HR to see if I was a good fit for the company. They asked what I wanted to learn and if I had any questions.
- How did you find out about Participant?
- What do you know about Participant?
- What do you want to learn in this role?
Editor
The interview started with a phone call with a recruiter. We talked about my experience, previous projects, and the position itself. Since I was referred by a friend, the interview was pretty quick because my friend had already shared my background and talked up my experience.
- Can you discuss your experience?
- What kind of projects have you done?
- What's your availability like?
