It was an easy process. There were two rounds of interviews. The first was with the executive assistant and the second was with the member of parliament. I felt like I already had the job before I even walked in.

I was brought in to shadow a current employee and to give suggestions on how the day-to-day workload could be lightened or how to improve the day/problem solve on the spot. It was pretty intense. Then, I met with the boss and was asked about what I would do in situations pulled from the newspapers, so I also had to be knowledgeable about current events.

The interview process was two rounds. The first round was with two staffers and they were just trying to get to know me, asking about my studies and extracurriculars. The second round was with the Minister, and he was interested in getting a sense of my areas of interests and level of knowledge re Canadian politics.

It was a really thorough and demanding process, which I actually appreciated. Started with a chat with some really knowledgeable and nice recruiters. Then I met with two managers for an interview that was very focused but still friendly. After that, I had to do some security background checks and language tests.
