It was a three-stage interview. First, a recruiter called, then I spoke with the office manager, and finally, the attorneys and legal team interviewed me. Everyone was really nice. The recruiter was upfront that moving to other departments wouldn't be easy. The attorney group seemed great, and I think I would have liked working with them. The pay wasn't quite enough for me to make the change, or I would have taken the job.

I submitted my resume through a LinkedIn contact, and the first step was a phone interview where they asked about my availability, salary needs, and why I was leaving my job. About a week later, I had an in-person interview that lasted over an hour with two lawyers and an admin person. The questions were pretty standard for this kind of role, and they went over the benefits package. They initially said a decision would be made the next week, but it ended up taking two to three weeks to hear back that they had hired someone else.

The interview started off a little weird with Sydney mentioning she usually has someone to help with something and mumbling, making it hard to understand. She was very cold initially, no greeting, and just jumped into a bunch of questions like a checklist. I tried to make the conversation more relaxed, and she did warm up eventually. It was surprising to get rejected saying they wanted someone with experience, especially since the role was exactly what I've done full-time and as a contractor. I'm pretty disappointed, but I kind of know what happened. The role has been open for a while, which is usually a bad sign. I guess I dodged a bullet, but I don't feel I was treated fairly. My message to Sydney is to stop gatekeeping. Hearing from a recruiter that you're one way and then experiencing something totally different is wild.

The interview was with three people in the IT department. The interview was good and seemed like it went well. The interview was setup by the HR person who was very pleasant. After an in person interview that lasted almost two hours, I never got any feedback. I finally reached out to the HR person who did not respond directly but after two more days sent a form letter saying they were not interested. If you are going to take up someone's time to spend two hours with them the least you could do is tell them you are moving on and not have it come from a form letter two weeks later.
