Analytics Engineer
I applied directly on the careers page and heard back about three weeks later from the recruiting coordinator to schedule an initial call. She answered my questions about the role and mentioned she'd discuss my background with the hiring manager. A few days after that, she emailed again saying they were interested in moving forward and asked me to set up a call with the hiring manager. The call with him was mostly about my background and past analytics engineering projects, plus some coding questions using SQL and Python. A few days after that call, they told me they decided to go with another candidate. The whole process was really smooth, and their communication was super fast, which I appreciated!
- Could you explain the circumstances under which denormalization would be appropriate for a database?
Production Designer
The interview process involved roughly 6 or 7 steps, starting with an HR phone call screening. After that, I interviewed with my current manager. Then, I got a Production Design test that I had 48 hours to finish. The next part was a panel interview, about 2 hours long, with around 5 team members. One interview was done separately because a panel member got covid. After that, I gave 3 references, and they were contacted the next week. Finally, I got a call offering me the position and explaining all the benefits (not many since I'm part-time, but still important to mention).
- Can you share an instance where you collaborated with a different team?
- Describe a situation where you encountered an obstacle in a creative project and how you successfully navigated it.
Senior Software Engineer
After initial chats with the recruiter, I had a phone screen with a developer. This chat was about my background and interests, no coding involved. Then, another recruiter call, followed by the onsite interviews. The onsite had 6 rounds, including 3 technical ones: a whiteboard coding session, a system design discussion, and a database design problem (covering data modeling, ORM, etc.). I spoke with the CTO and an engineering director about their development philosophy, team challenges, management style, and my past work. I even met the CEO, Alexa Hirschfeld. A bit of a downer was one engineer who seemed disengaged and mostly on his phone after I mentioned no database design experience. I had lunch with my phone screener, hoping it wasn't an interview since no technical questions came up. Later, another 'lunch' was with the CTO and 4 other engineers, which felt like an interview in disguise. A few days after, the recruiter let me know they decided not to move forward.
- Can you discuss Agile methodology, monolith vs. microservices, SOA, and related concepts?
- How would you design the database schema for a school management system?
- Could you implement an LRU cache?
Office Manager
The employees I met were really friendly and casual, making me feel at ease. I first spoke with an HR associate, and then followed up with the HR director, who I had initially spoken to during the phone screen. I was scheduled to meet with a co-founder, but they had to cancel last minute due to a meeting. The interview itself was about 30 minutes long, and they wanted to learn about my past experiences and career path.
- Can you tell me about your background?
- How do you handle event management?
- What are your HR responsibilities?
