It took about three weeks from applying to getting the offer. It was one of the most organized and respectful interview experiences I’ve had. First, there was a recruiter screen, which was a very chill 30-minute call to talk about my background and why I was interested in Panopto. Then, the hiring manager interview, which felt more like a conversation about the company’s vision and how the team operates. Finally, there was an interview loop with a series of short 1-on-1s with potential teammates. Everyone was super kind, and the questions were more about culture fit and my problem-solving approach, not high-pressure technical gotchas.

It took them about a month to get back to me about a phone interview. The interviewer seemed uninterested and rushed the whole call. She asked questions that are more suited for mid-senior level roles, not for an entry junior position. They also sent over two critical thinking assessments and a personality assessment. Based on this, I knew I wouldn't proceed because they seem to be looking for someone more experienced than a junior.

The interview process at Panopto starts with an initial screening by a recruiter over the phone or video, where they'll chat about your background, qualifications, and if you're a good fit for the company culture. They'll want to hear about your resume, why you're interested, and your salary expectations. Then, there's a technical interview with the tech team, which might include coding challenges or deep dives into your technical skills related to Panopto's products. Make sure to highlight relevant projects and how you solve problems. After that, a behavioral interview with hiring managers or team members will focus on your soft skills like teamwork, communication, and problem-solving. You'll also have a managerial interview to learn more about the role and team, and for the manager to see if you fit in culturally. Show your enthusiasm! Finally, Panopto might do a reference check to confirm your experience.

The interview process for this startup (about 100 employees) was extremely long and frustrating. I was taken aback by being penalized for a spelling error that my word processor auto-corrected. I was supposed to have the recruiter review my submission before it went to management, but that didn't happen. If I wasn't already working a demanding full-time job, I might have had the time to meticulously check the spelling of every name in a test that felt like something from elementary school. Despite being a top performer for 20 years and this company reaching out to me, I sacrificed significant personal and work time to meet their strict deadlines and passed all interviews. The only issue was misspelling one interviewer's last name. The recruiter assured me she would review and make any necessary corrections. Relying on her feedback and being on my way to client meetings, I gave her the green light. I was surprised she submitted it without confirming and reviewing as we discussed.
