Scientist
I found the job on LinkedIn and the hiring manager reached out. We had a virtual interview, then another with HR. A week later, I heard the role changed from full-time to contract.
- Would you be okay with a role that requires you to do a bit of everything?
Manager
I spoke with the hiring manager and then HR for a culture interview. They were unclear about the department for the role and vague about responsibilities, making it sound like the job would be chaotic and adaptable to whatever needs arise. I'm unsure about proceeding to further rounds (at least two more were anticipated, though details were fuzzy) as I haven't heard back.
- What motivates your interest in joining this company?
Research Scientist
The interview process involved a seminar and a panel interview. Even though I went on-site for the interview, most interviewers were not present. The company's direction, specifically in gene editing for berries with an immense projected profit, seemed unclear. Their business model and operational specifics were not well-articulated, and they tended to avoid questions that might expose this uncertainty. The lab facilities were located in a repurposed, dated factory building. This role appears to have a significant burn rate, estimated at $70-100M annually, raising questions about financial sustainability.
- What action would you take if an individual failed to follow instructions?
Intern
The interview process consisted of 2 virtual rounds. One round was with the hiring manager and the other was with an HR representative. The interviews were scheduled quickly, and they were very open about the next steps and timelines. Although the initial emails seemed templated, everyone was very friendly. I had applied to multiple positions, and for the ones I didn't get interviews for, I was eventually informed that they had decided to move in a different direction.
- What makes you want to join our company?
- Can you share an experience where you faced a setback and how you managed to overcome it?
- What are your long-term career aspirations?
