Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Oxford Nanopore Technologies.
Software Engineer
I went through an interview recently. I did not get an offer, but the interviewer was really helpful. The whole experience was nice and I learned a lot. Just a heads up: brush up on your fundamentals – data structures, algorithms, and OS.
- Tell me about data structures.
- Can you explain algorithms?
- What are your thoughts on operating systems?
Software Developer
They asked for my availability in 2 weeks. After I provided it, they took a week to get back to me with a timeslot. They sent an interview invite, then cancelled it 2 hours later without any explanation. It was a really disrespectful way to treat candidates, which matches what I've read about their internal culture.
- The interview was cancelled without any explanation.
Technical Lead
The interview was on-site and lasted about an hour. It was a single round with two managers. It felt pretty straightforward, honestly. I kind of wish an HR person had been involved somewhere in the process though.
- Review of my submitted paper
- A talk about the company's product
