First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Owl Labs.
Technical Support Specialist
The hiring manager was very nice. We had a Zoom call for a quick and standard interview where we talked about the job, Owl Labs' products, and my background. Then, I had to complete a short assessment on how I'd handle mock support requests. It was easy, but since I was out of town, I could only do it 3 days later, and I suspect they had already found their preferred candidates by then. It felt like I was just an application they had to process, going through the usual steps even if they weren't really considering me because the role was already filled. It seems like a great company, but the position was a 6-month contract, which means missing out on most of the advertised benefits. The pay could have been better, though there was a potential for a full-time offer if the job market was favorable and I proved myself. I don't think it's worth the risk, as I could end up looking for a new job in 6 months anyway. However, if you're open to contract work and want to try for a full-time role at Owl Labs, it's worth considering. Owl Labs seems to be a good company.

Sales Development Representative
This was one of the best interviews I've ever been in. First, a screening with a recruiter, then a formal interview with the team lead. The recruiter messed up the salary range, but it was fixed in the second interview. The second interview was great though. They asked specific, relevant questions and laid out all expectations clearly from the start. They described the role, company, and culture well. It felt balanced, structured, but also conversational. What was really cool was that the interviewer told me to just tell my story and not to point out takeaways, letting them draw their own conclusions. I'm totally gonna use that for my own interviews. It made me feel confident they're hiring the right people, which is super important at a startup.

IT Operations Manager
Yeahhhh, I did NOT get that Tech Ops Manager role. Thank goodness. Don't be fooled by the benefits and location. Ask questions! I did! It was pretty straightforward. The SENIOR Talent Manager that interviewed me, was not all that informed about the role, responsibilities, expectations and growth of department, for a 7yr old company, that is JUST bringing IT in house. Companies always overlook IT until it's too late. Having the manager also be the analyst is dumb. This is a six figure role, but is it? My advice? Don't overwork people. Getting paid 6 figures to do three roles at once isn't so great. Most likely talked myself OUT of THIS job, because I pushed back on ONE person being ALL of IT for the entire company. This is by far not my only interview, so why take a job being SUPER overworked? Could I DO the job solo? Sure. WOULD I do the job solo? WHY? I asked what the timeline for hiring MORE IT would be, especially since the SENIOR Talent Manager said they want to be global and 24/7 seemingly this year and she said there wasn't one. Oof! Yeah, that's how you create burnout and people quit. How is that good for the company? Or the time of whomever is hired? There are NO analysts under this role and no timeline for WHEN there will be???????? No CTO/CIO,either?! Someone as experienced as I am, being both the manager and the analyst, is a waste of time and resources. Ah well, goodluck....with IT over there. That person is going to be overworked as heck. Would not recommend Owl Labs at ALL. 🤔 I'm experienced and asked questions, I did not get the role. Easy peasy, lemon squeasy, STAY AWAY FROM OWL LABS. They want someone with the experience of myself and the mentality of an entry level person. Does not compute.

Tax Analyst
The interview process was thorough and made me feel comfortable that I was getting a good picture of the company as a whole. The team did a great job of communicating the immediate needs of the company and expectations of the role to provide me with an accurate idea of job functions that would be a necessity versus nice to haves. Additionally, I felt that the interview process was a good "two way street" in the sense that Owl Labs also wanted to make sure the prospective employee felt comfortable joining the startup environment.
