Behavioral Technical Presentation

The interview process kicked off with a call from HR who gave me a rundown of what to expect. Then there was a design challenge for their actual product, which honestly felt like a red flag since they could potentially use my ideas without hiring me. I got to the final round and met with several people. I thought the interviews went really well and was expecting an offer, but they didn't extend one because they said I wasn't "empathetic" enough. I was confused by this feedback and they couldn't explain what they meant. I even mentioned I was a user of their fertility app to show my engagement, but I guess that wasn't enough. I now avoid companies that require design challenges, especially on their own products, as it seems like they don't know how to evaluate designers or what they're looking for. A portfolio should be sufficient to showcase abilities.

Behavioral Technical Presentation

I sent in my application online and the Director of Operations got in touch pretty quickly to set up an initial 30-minute phone chat. That first call was great, really easy and pleasant with the Director. She then set up a second call right away. This second call was a bit confusing because the company was still pretty small. I spoke with someone who was maybe a VP or a Manager, possibly the hiring manager, but I wasn't sure. Since I had to take the calls during my lunch break, I stepped out of the office. The Director of Ops had made the second call sound like just another casual chat, but the interviewer seemed annoyed that I didn't have my laptop or phone ready to check out their website or app. I hadn't been told I'd need them for this early stage, and because I was on lunch, my laptop was back at my desk. Plus, I was using my phone to talk to them, so I couldn't use it to view their app. The interviewer ended the call abruptly and wished me well. Not long after, I got an email saying they were moving on with other candidates. I thought the second interviewer was quite rude and unhelpful; she could have offered to reschedule or asked me about my actual experience instead of asking what I'd change about their website.

Behavioral Technical Coding

The interview process started with a recruiter screen, followed by a hiring manager screen via Zoom where no coding was involved. Then, there was a take-home coding challenge. The final stage included technical and behavioral interviews with the hiring manager, another team lead, and HR, where the hiring manager and team lead discussed the take-home challenge.

I had a phone interview that went really well, the recruiter was nice and easy to talk to. She was always honest and polite. She didn't share much about the job, so I asked more questions to get more info, but still didn't get much more details. The next steps were for me to send in content and set up a meeting with the Marketing Manager. I haven't heard back since, not even an acknowledgment of receiving my work samples.
