First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Overpass.
Talent Advocate Manager
I had a call with the CEO and COO. They wanted to understand my management skills and sales knowledge. We discussed how I would manage a team and the process for vetting sales contractors.
- What's your approach to vetting contractors on the platform?
Project Manager
My interview process experience was not a good one. I had one phone screen with the HR hiring manager. It started off with a general 'tell me about your current position' to which I described my experience. Six minutes within the phone screen, she was ready to end our phone call. I wasn't ready to end the interview so quickly and asked if she had time because I had a few questions. I work for a very well known company and wanted to know about the culture of Overpass. She answered that by stating, 'Well, this isn't (insert company I currently work for)'. I was a little taken back with that response because it was extremely rude. She also proceeded to tell me that she is so much older than I am and she remembers a time when the company I work for was just starting out. I have two major companies on my resume that I have worked for and the interviewer did not like me for the fact that I was 'young' and had the experience I did. I'm not sure why exactly but it was clear that she disliked me. I did receive a email stating that she would not continue the interview process with me because Overpass was looking for more 'hands on start up experience', which to me sounds like a lousy excuse. I know the reason was due to being disliked by her.
- Can you tell me about your current position?
Junior Developer
So, first there was a quick recruiter call, then a take-home coding test that wasn't too hard. After that, I went to their Newark office for an in-person interview. They asked me standard questions and some coding ones too. Unfortunately, I never heard back after that, not even a rejection or any feedback, which would've been super helpful since I'm a Junior Developer trying to get my first job.
- Questions where I had to fix broken functions that focused a lot on scoping issues.
- The interviewer also reviewed my coding challenge code with me.
Talent Advocate Manager
I had my first interview with the CEO and the second wit the co-founder and Chief Product Officer. As this was a brand new role for the company, a lot of the questions revolved around my ideas around how to standardize and grow that part of the company as well as my ability to speak well to different people. I received the offer not long after they confirmed my references!
- Can you tell me about your resume?
- Have you ever run virtual meetings and events before?
