First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at OuterBox.
SEO Strategist
I interviewed through several rounds. First was a screener, then I spoke with the manager for Enterprise accounts, followed by a panel interview for a regular Strategist position. I didn't get the Enterprise role, though I thought it went pretty well. For the strategist role, the panel asked about my personal life and had me do a presentation. They said not to spend more than 30 minutes on it and that it wasn't about being right or wrong, just my philosophy. They rejected me due to issues with how I spend my personal time. I asked for feedback, but got a generic response, suggesting the decision wasn't based on my skills.
- Tell me about your hobbies and how you manage them alongside your work.
- How do you achieve a work-life balance?
SEO Strategist
I applied online and got an email to set up an interview. The first one was a screening with the talent director, which went really well. She said there was a cognitive test before the next interview. Two days later, I got a generic email saying they moved on with other candidates. Given my experience, I feel I should have moved forward. My impression is they want someone controllable, not someone focused on providing good service, which is strange because SEO is all about quality these days, and Outerbox didn't seem to get that.
- Which SEO tools are you familiar with?

I submitted an application online and a few days later, the HR coordinator reached out to schedule an initial chat with two HR folks. We talked about my experience, my reasons for seeking a new role, and some fundamental SEO topics. Following that, I was asked to complete an SEO assessment with 12 questions related to SEO. Once I submitted the assessment, I got another call to set up a second interview with the hiring manager and one of the partners. The people were really nice and seemed genuinely interested in getting to know me. I appreciated how involved they were in the conversation!
