First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Outdoor Voices.
Director
I was contacted about a role in early October, but couldn't get the first interview scheduled until late November because the interviewer was traveling. Three more interviews happened after that. In late December, they asked for my compensation comparisons, which was weird because the job title had been changing throughout the process. They said I'd get the job description that night, but it took three weeks and unanswered emails to get it. The JD had changed a lot since the first interview, and they also sent a salary range. When I asked about the next steps, communication stalled again for another two weeks with unanswered emails. Then they explained the position was now open to more applicants because it was better defined. I asked if I should re-interview with the new pool of candidates since it had been three months. No response for a month. After all the back and forth and poor communication, they finally emailed saying they decided to make the role more senior. No call, no apology. I think they might have ghosted me if I hadn't followed up so much. My takeaway from OV is a lack of clarity, direction, respect, and transparency.

Sales Associate
Applied, then had a phone interview with the store manager. Second interview was in person with the store manager and assistant manager. I heard nothing after both interviews. I followed up 3 times over a month and still got no response. I was really looking forward to this job because I love the brand. I was super disappointed to be ghosted after two interviews. For a retail company, they should have better respect for people's time. It's embarrassing and shows bad recruitment skills.
- What's your go-to breakfast?
Associate Buyer
I had a call with HR, then I passed my info to the hiring manager. They asked me to complete a pretty detailed project, like a 3-4 page deck. I spent about 5 hours of my own free time on it, outside my regular job, and then I never heard back. It was pretty disappointing because I was really excited about the role and felt like I wasted my personal time. I honestly expected more from this company and wouldn't be surprised if they took some ideas from my deck.

Intern
The interview was pretty easy. Everyone was very welcoming and nice. There were no super hard questions that caught me off guard. I felt very comfortable the whole time and wasn't as intimidated as I thought I would be.
