Account Manager
I interviewed with 2 senior managers. It was a nice conversation and everything indicated the interview went well. In the end, I suppose they didnt think I was the right fit. I didnt receive a response after I sent emails thanking them for their time, etc. That's how I figured it wasn't going to work out.

Account Manager
Otis usually hired either business school grads or folks with elevator sales experience for Account Manager roles. My own process started with an interview at university for a summer internship, then later for a job. For new hires wanting to move up, they need to spend time in the local sales offices. Typically, you'd interview for a day or two at the local office, after a phone interview with the location and HR managers, maybe the regional GM. This interview day at the local office usually involves 4 to 6 meetings with the Location Manager, Sales Manager, Superintendent, Manager of the department with the opening, HR manager, sales reps, and possibly the Regional GM. They want the whole team to meet you. Smaller offices might have fewer interviews. Interviews usually last 30-60 minutes. Lunch with interviewers is common, and maybe dinner if you're from out of town. Depending on schedules, you might tour the area or ride along with a sales rep. Questions are pretty standard by the fourth interview. They focus on your history, education, product and sales knowledge, and how you interact with people. Teamwork is crucial at Otis, so they want to see if you can work with sales reps, mechanics, superintendents, engineers, and support staff. A challenge for some is the field component, working with the blue-collar workforce. Superintendents are often very direct and want to know if you're capable, a team player, and trustworthy. Gaining their respect is key to success. By the end of the day, you'll know where you stand, and an offer usually comes a few days later after feedback from the team.
- How would you manage or collaborate with challenging colleagues or personalities?
Account Manager
I initially connected with OTIS at a university career fair and was promptly invited for an interview on campus the next day. This involved meeting with an HR representative from CA and a local manager from IA. Surprisingly, I was invited on the spot to their Super Day, which brings together the top 10 candidates from west of the Mississippi. Although it was initially planned for LA, CA, 3 of the top candidates being from Iowa led them to relocate the Super Day to their Des Moines office. During the Super Day, I participated in a panel interview with several executives, completed a writing exercise, engaged in a role-play scenario, and delivered a presentation that I had prepared beforehand. I got an offer about a week after.
