Went through five interviews: screening, hiring manager, engineering + design, VP of Product, and Chief People Officer. Everyone was super nice. It was a little weird when the engineer had a variation of the f-word on their screen during our chat (maybe not the most professional choice?), but oh well. Liked the people I met, not sure why it didn't work out, but wishing them the best.

They have a really thorough interview process where you end up interviewing with a bunch of different teams. Since they're in the middle of a merge, it's a little tricky. After speaking with the recruiter, there were FOUR interviews: first, an interview with the Director of Engineering and a Software Developer Manager, then a culture interview, followed by a Product Manager interview, and finally, an interview with other designers. They keep mentioning diversity and inclusion throughout the interviews, but it was notable that only one person of color was present among the seven interviewers across the panels.

Technical Coding

The interview process was a mess and unclear, they really focused on interviewing you without respecting your time or your need to interview them too. The first call with the recruiter made the job seem great, but it went downhill from there. I had two interviews where they started by explaining why there was so little clarity on who I'd meet and the purpose of each interview, saying it was because a lot of people had left recently. It felt like everyone was leaving when they could. The only other thing I got from the interviewers was that their product is really hard to learn and takes a long time to get up to speed. Also, there were a bunch of differences between the job description and the tech they talked about. I almost quit after the first interview, but I'd already done their coding challenge so I wanted to discuss it. Honestly, it was hard to take seriously or even figure out what the role actually is. Oh, and they're using an old story point system.

First, there was a phone screening with a technical recruiter. If that went well, the next step was a phone screening with one of the lead developers on a team, where they checked my technical skills and my background.
