First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Organization of American States.
Intern
It was a pretty standard interview. They really wanted to know about my research interests and personal experiences. Because OAS staff need to know at least two official languages, the interview could be in Spanish, French, or Portuguese alongside English.
- Could you share an instance of a challenge you faced and how you successfully navigated it?
Consultor
There were 4 phone interviews involving Buenos Aires, Tegucigalpa, and the US. They asked general questions about my personality and specific questions related to the position. It was for a 4-month consulting gig.
- Tell me about a time you had to be creative or innovative to solve a problem
- What are your weaknesses and strengths?
Administrative Officer
The hiring process is done through the company's homepage and can take several months, sometimes up to 6 months of preparation. Personal recommendations from high-ranking politicians can be advantageous. For the administrative officer role, candidates should have experience in administration, be good with numbers and math, manage budgets, and be fluent in English, Spanish, Portuguese, and French.
- Could you explain the role of the OAS?
- Regarding the OAS budget, who is in charge of its control?
- What are the main documents associated with the OAS?
Human Resources Administration Intern
One of the interviews was relaxed and fast. I could clear up all my doubts, and it was more like a conversation. The second interview was much more serious and difficult. Besides telling me about the position, they asked me legal and academic questions that were extremely complicated for an intern.
- What is your work availability?
- Do you have any legal questions?
- Do you have any academic questions?
