I want to commend the zoo on their hiring practice which made me feel appreciated, even though I didn't get an interview. When I applied for this Animal Keeper position, I later got a polite email refusal which also stated how many applicants applied (well over a hundred). Knowing how competitive the process was softened the blow of rejection, and many employers don't even send a rejection email. The hiring manager really went above and beyond with their communication.

I applied online and then got an email to set up an interview. There were two panel interviews over Zoom. Each was about 30 minutes long. The questions were pretty standard for jobs involving animal keeping.

The interview process includes a group interview that starts with a tour. You'll write down answers to some questions. Afterwards, everyone is asked individual questions in front of the group. It's a relaxed and easy atmosphere, not competitive or intimidating.
