Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Oregon State University.
Accountant
I applied online and then had an initial phone interview. After that, I came in person and they got back to me within a week. They did mention that I should keep applying elsewhere and they would get back to me in a timely manner. I have interviewed at a lot of places and OSU has been the most professional and efficient.
- Can you describe how you address diversity within the workplace?
- Describe a situation where you were responsible for creating, implementing, and explaining a policy.
- What aspects of this role appeal to you the most?
Accountant
The process at osu involves group interviews where you'll be in a conference room with 3 to 6 people who could be your managers, peers, or clients from another department. This is followed by background and fingerprint checks, making it a lengthy procedure. The difficulty varies depending on the questions asked; I interviewed for several accounting roles, some felt easy and comfortable, but others were nerve-wracking. I didn't get some of those positions and am still awaiting feedback on others.
- What are your standard questions, and also behavioral questions, be ready with examples of how you handled things in past jobs, for example, a mistake you made in a prior job?
- If you were assisting a customer and your phone rang, what action would you take?
- How do you manage to meet multiple deadlines when you lack the necessary information or expertise to finish them on schedule?
Accountant
I had two interviews for two different jobs at OSU. Both included a panel of about 5 people who took turns asking questions. They were friendly and asked pretty typical interview questions.
- They always ask a question about diversity.
