First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Oregon Department of Human Services.
Human Resource Analyst
The hiring process was quite open about what to expect. They conducted two interview rounds. The first round involved a one-way video interview where I received the questions via email and had about a week to record my responses. The second interview was conducted over Zoom. Similar to the first, the questions were emailed the day before, allowing ample time for preparation. Approximately 5-6 interviewers were present on the panel, all with their cameras on and very friendly. Overall, it was a positive experience!
- Can you discuss your understanding and experience with equity and inclusion initiatives?
Family Coach
I had a group interview, which was a surprise. The usual process includes answering questions in front of the group, a teamwork exercise that seemed pointless, and then some written questions at the end. This was my first group interview, so it was an interesting dynamic to try and be supportive of others while also quietly and confidently showing I was the best candidate. The written part before the interview needs to be standardized better. I've applied for this job before with the same answers and wasn't invited back due to some behind-the-scenes scoring issues. The state is particular about the exact words used in screening, even if you have a lot of experience and your answer is solid.
- Can you share an instance where you assisted someone in taking action or making a change within a case management context?
Family Coach
I interviewed with a lot of different locations, and each one had a slightly different process. The interviews helped me understand the position better as they went on. They all use a scoring matrix. It's hard to get any feedback on how to improve, if it's even possible. Even though I worked with one HR person, feedback was difficult to get. When submitting the resume, there were some qualifying questions. It seems like the different branches have a big list of questions they can pick from. Not all the questions were the same, but many were common across the branches.
- Can you share examples from your work experience where you communicated decisions, laws, rules, or regulations? Also, describe your experience communicating decisions about approving or denying benefits or services, and what methods you use to convey this information.
Home Healthcare Provider
To be a Home Healthcare Provider, you'll need to complete some paperwork and a background check. There's also a seminar covering important topics like hygiene and client confidentiality. To find clients, you'll set your online account to available. Clients can then view your profile and contact you for an interview, or you can view theirs. During the interview, which is usually at their home, they'll ask about your experience and qualifications. If they like you, they'll offer you the job.
- Do you have any experience preparing food?
