The recruiter reached out, and my experience was really positive. The whole thing wrapped up in a bit less than a month because of the Christmas holiday. They actually gave me feedback after each step, and they were super quick to get back to me. I also liked that I got to chat with people from different teams and my potential colleagues.

Technical Coding

So after I sent in my resume, they sent me a take-home test with three questions. I finished it up and passed, so then they set me up for a technical interview. It went great, I felt like I nailed it. Then I waited two weeks and they called to say there was an organizational change and a new manager wanted to change the role quite a bit. Suddenly it required experience, which it didn't before. They gave me another take-home task, which I also worked hard on. But I didn't pass this one. Honestly, it was a really bad and disrespectful experience. I talked to some recruitment people and they agreed this is super unprofessional. I don't need a disrespectful workplace. Thanks Orca Security.

Confirmed questions3 questions
  • The first question required extensive online research to correctly adjust computer permissions.
  • For the second question, I had to fix bugs found in a bash script.
  • The third question asked me to provide descriptions for three bash scripts.

Coding Technical

the interview process was alright, and the interviewers were just fine. they were looking for pseudo-code, but then they'd claim your code wasn't good enough when they rejected you, which is completely untrue. if you check other reviews, you'll see there's something strange about how this company recruits. they used to give out vouchers for finishing home assignments, and then they started offering them alongside the assignments. thanks for the ice cream, but it doesn't excuse your terrible interviewing methods.

Confirmed questions3 questions
  • A mid-level coding challenge was part of the take-home assignment.
  • The home assignment also included a question about working with an API.
  • The first technical interview featured a data structure problem.

Coding System Design

A third-party recruiter contacted me. First, there was a take-home task where I had to build a basic API service, which took about 3-8 hours depending on how I set up the environment since they didn't provide runtime details. The recruiter said it went well and I advanced. Next, a 2-hour coding and system design interview. It involved a straightforward coding problem and a medium-difficulty system design for a chat app, assuming knowledge of a specific web stack. The interviewers were not very interactive, so it was hard to ask questions or discuss ideas. I think I did okay since I was invited to the next stage. Finally, an interview with the Hiring Manager and Team Lead, which was the complete opposite of the previous one – very open and conversational about the project and role. It's been over three weeks now with no response to my follow-ups, so I assume I've been ghosted.

Confirmed questions4 questions
  • Take-Home task to implement a simple API service.
  • Perform a simple coding task and design a chat system.
  • Perform a simple coding task.
