The recruiter initially said I was a good fit, but the role wasn't as senior as my experience. I wasn't sure it was a good fit but continued to see if the job title was misleading. The questions felt formulaic and didn't focus on how my skills could help the company grow. The recruiter also asked if I could design within templates, which seemed odd given they're looking for a senior creative, not an entry-level production artist. I asked about plans to update the website's basic template design, but she couldn't answer. She mentioned the process included a take-home test project, estimated at 30 minutes. I explained my portfolio and LinkedIn skill assessments showcase my abilities and that I usually don't do test projects, but would review it. I've seen companies use test projects to get free creative work, and a 30-minute project can't possibly demonstrate the results-driven work I typically produce. When I brought up negative Glassdoor reviews, she said they're hiring a company to improve their profile. She then ended the call abruptly for another meeting. My take is that a Jan 5, 2021, former employee review was accurate, and they might have a high turnover rate for designers, possibly indicating a sweatshop environment that exploits creatives. I usually take Glassdoor reviews with a grain of salt, but the mix of only 1-star and 5-star reviews here raised a red flag. This suggests the 1-star reviews might be accurate, and the 5-star ones could be management-pressured. I've experienced this before, where a company owner pressured employees for 5-star reviews and tried to get bad ones removed. The fact that this company is hiring a specialist to 'fix' their Glassdoor profile instead of focusing on treating employees well to earn organic reviews confirms my suspicions. It's a definite pass for me. They never sent the test project, likely realizing I was onto them and opting to find a less aware candidate. I backed out before any offer stage.

It was a very casual interview. The interviewers were really nice. I think it was about 15 minutes long. They didn't ask me a lot because I had already explained things to them.

Got an email back quickly after they got my resume and scheduled an interview for the next day at their main office. The person interviewing me was really nice and asked some good questions about what I could add to Orange Shine and why I was interested in working there. They were super upfront about what the job would be like and even shared their thoughts on how I'd fit in.

I spoke with a female manager. She asked basic questions like my strengths and weaknesses. They emailed me two days after the interview saying I got accepted, but I didn't see it until they called me because it was in my spam folder.
