Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Optiver.
Talent Acquisition Specialist
The hiring process was extremely unethical and biased. I have 2.5 years of experience, and I was judged harshly by a disengaged interviewer. I found out that someone with no HR experience was hired for a similar role because the hiring manager is their friend. This demonstrates unethical hiring and nepotism, making the company look unprofessional. It is 2025, and they should change their practices. Also, based on a previous comment, the team is very homogenous.
- Can you identify any issues with the assessment prompt?

Started with a call with the Head of Talent Acquisition, then had a chat with another recruiter on the team. After that, I spoke with someone from the same team and the Head of IT. The last step was an interview with the Head of Operations.
- Can you tell me about your previous roles and responsibilities?
- What technical competencies do you possess that align with the requirements of this position?

I had a phone screen, then I presented a deck. The final round was a 4-hour Zoom with about 8 Optiver employees. They built in a 15-minute break, but it ended up being only 8 minutes because some talks went long. The interviewers didn't leave much time and some senior folks were condescending. I didn't feel my time was valued and it felt like a one-way conversation. I didn't think it was a good fit after the interview, no matter the result.
- What if our CEO said they didn't want to hire more women? What would you do?
- If you were leaving your current role, what would you suggest your current team put in your job description?
