I was referred by a staffing agency for this role. After sending my resume, I had an interview a week later at the client's location in a conference room. It was a panel of six engineers, which included the staffing company's account manager and the client's hiring manager. The hiring manager seemed to base their decision on my previous engineering experience. The other panel members asked some questions about my software skills.

First, you'll have a quick chat with HR to go over your background, experience, and if you're a good fit for the team and company culture. They'll also ask about why you applied, your salary expectations, and when you can start. Then, they'll explain the rest of the interview process and set up your next interview. After that, you'll have about an hour-long technical interview with an engineer. This part is all about checking your technical skills, how you think, and how well you communicate. Expect to tackle system design questions, either broad architecture or specific parts. You'll need to ask clarifying questions, discuss trade-offs, justify your design choices, and talk about scalability, reliability, performance, and any edge cases.
