So first, there was this phone call with a VP, pretty introductory, mostly about personality and if you're into media. Like, do you watch TV? Are you into celebs, philanthropy, production, or movies? If that went well, they had me come in person. There, I talked more about my technical background and how I could make OWN better. They wanted to see how my past experience aligned with what they're doing now. If they liked that, it was time for the actual technical part, like a hands-on test of my skills. They compared my answers to others' to make a decision. The whole thing took about two weeks.

I got an email to set up a first phone interview. The call was friendly and open, they treated me well and made me feel comfortable. The recruiter asked me all the right things and gave me feedback on our chat at the end, but didn’t promise anything. I didn’t get the job but she called me to leave the best rejection voicemail ever. I didn’t expect anything less from a network with Oprah leading it. I’m happy I got the chance to apply and maybe there’ll be a job for me later. Either way, it was a good experience.

The initial stages with the HR team were promising, with helpful representatives. However, the subsequent interview process became unbelievable. HR has been incredibly unresponsive, and some executives displayed unprofessional behavior, showing a lack of leadership. The hiring decisions didn't seem to be based on merit, and the overall practice felt exclusionary, involving bullying and unfair tactics driven by power-hungry department executives.

I was called in five times to talk to five different people, which I thought was a bit disrespectful of my time and disorganized. After all that, I got a generic email saying they hired someone else. The whole thing felt kind of unorganized.

Confirmed questions3 questions
  • I was asked to prepare a draft outlining proposed changes for a website.
  • The HR person quizzed me on marketing terminology, such as the definition of a 404 redirect.
  • I was also asked to define what a CRM is.
