Behavioral Presentation

The interview process was extensive and overwhelmingly positive at first, making me feel like a perfect fit. The recruiter set up a mock phone call to ensure I was over-prepared. I spent about 4 days researching the company, product, and how to pitch it. However, during the actual call, the hiring managers, despite having interviewed me twice before, completely changed their demeanor. They wanted me to act less knowledgeable and told me I had too much information, which was off-putting.

This interview was for an SDR Manager role, which seemed really interesting because the team sells Procurement and FP&A software to government entities. I have about 3 years of experience in government Procurement and a year in government FP&A, plus 2 years as an SDR at a Fortune 500 company selling Sourcing and FP&A products. I'm familiar with tools like Outreach, Sales Navigator, Salesforce, and ZoomInfo. However, the interview with the Director ended after only 5 minutes because I didn't have about 1-2 years of formal SDR leadership experience. I was surprised they didn't notice this on my resume or LinkedIn. If manager experience was a must-have, I felt my time could have been saved. I believe I offered a lot of industry knowledge that was just dismissed, which was a big miss.

Since I was living out-of-state in Denver, CO when I interviewed, the process was about 4-5 phone interviews, each lasting 30 minutes. First, there was a recruiter phone screen where they asked general questions about my background, personality, and career goals. After that, I had several more phone interviews with different managers. These interviews were similar, but they also asked about my past sales performance numbers. Once I got to their headquarters in Redwood City, I had in-person one-on-one interviews with all the sales and operations management team.
