First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at OpenExchange.
Project Manager
The company's products and international presence were initially interesting. The role seemed to fit my experience. However, the interview was short, only 30 minutes, and felt rushed. One interviewer was disengaged, making things tense. The other asked questions not related to my skills, like my origin. It felt more judgmental than a professional review. My advice is to train interviewers on focusing on skills and creating a respectful, inclusive space. First impressions are key for candidates and employer branding.
- Where are you originally from?
Accountant
The entire hiring process spanned five weeks and included four interviews with various team members. The staff were friendly and answered questions, making for an average interview experience overall. References were required. However, there were some downsides regarding interview scheduling, where despite being given available slots, I was sometimes scheduled at different times without prior confirmation, forcing me to reschedule other commitments. After my candidacy was accepted, I was offered a contractor role with the same pay, which differed from the employee position stated in the job posting. I opted for the employee position. The employment agreement draft felt insufficient, mainly comprising confidentiality and IP clauses, with vague or missing details on the actual scope of work, payment terms, location, benefits, reimbursements, equipment, and termination. The only modification made was to correct my address; other suggested changes were dismissed with a promise of future review. I did not sign the document.
- What is your ultimate career aspiration?
Product Support Director
I applied to their job posting and heard back within a week to setup an interview. I was immediately struck by how professional they were in their messages and later communication as we held an interview to go over my background. The interview was one of the best I have had as I had found a company who was growing and had great people behind it. I was told the next step would be an additional interview with their team who was extremely busy the following week but would hear back with more information. I sent the normal thank you message and also followed up once the next week had gone by. Two weeks after the interview they reached back out and explained that things at OpenExchange can change on a dime and they had decided they needed to reevaluate the structure of their team. Sadly they did not want to hire anyone so the very positive impressions turned to concern about why the company would be interviewing for roles they did not want.
- Can you tell me what you know about our company?
- What's your background with SaaS products?
- What support platforms have you used (ticket based support systems)?
Project Manager
Overall, the interview process was straightforward. I had five Zoom calls in total to connect with future teammates and supervisors, and all of them were friendly. It took a bit under two months from start to finish before I received a job offer.
- What's your career vision?
- How comfortable are you with the virtual platform?
- Are you a fast learner?
