First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Opal.
Product Marketing Manager
So, I had this phone screening, and honestly, the interviewer was a mess. They totally stood me up for the first call, and I had to chase them to reschedule. I get that recruiters are busy, but still. What was weirder was that in all our email chats, they never mentioned which job I was applying for. When I asked during the call which role it was for, the interviewer just got super defensive. Then they hit me with this 'you're too late in the process' thing, which felt like I was wasting their time. Anyway, I tried to stay positive, but they really didn't want to hear about my actual experience. Instead, they wanted me to go through the job posting line by line and explain how I met each responsibility. It was wild, I had to pull up the job posting on my phone to even answer. They only asked three questions, and every time the interviewer sounded so annoyed. When it was my turn to ask questions, I got like, four-word answers. It was so frustrating, I just ended the call. Definitely not considering this company again.
- Given the job description, how would you quickly start contributing to each listed responsibility?
- Could you detail how you meet each responsibility outlined in the job posting, one by one?
HR Coordinator
I went through 3 sets of interviews for the HR Coordinator role. First, there was a 30 min to 1 hr phone screening. Then, I had two in-person interview rounds, each lasting 2 hours. The first in-person interview was one week, and the second was the following week. In total, I interviewed individually with seven people across those two in-person rounds. Given I was joining the Operations team, my interview might have been more in-depth than usual, but it wasn't overwhelming. I actually enjoyed it and got to see the office. Everyone was friendly and welcoming. I especially appreciated their honesty about the job. I was excited about Opal's culture. Some questions focused on my work-culture expectations. Many questions were about my benefits administration skills because of an upcoming carrier revamp and open enrollment in September. The HR Director was communicative about the hiring process. I accepted the job offer.
- What was the ROI (return on investment) you brought to your last company?
Customer Success Manager
This was a very short interview process. Only 2 interviews total. The first was a 30-minute phone interview with the hiring manager. Very straight forward questions. The second was an in-person interview with the CSM team. This interview started with a 10-minute presentation to the CSM team, followed by 10-minute 1:1 interviews with members of the team. It was 1 hour total. The questions were all very straightforward and nothing too shocking. One word of caution: I noticed that the job has been posted for months on their internal site and it doesn't appear that anyone has been hired.
- What does Customer Success mean to you?
Customer Success Project Manager
I applied online and about a week later, I had a phone interview with my potential manager. The following week, I met with someone I would have been working closely with. The whole process was great, and communication with the manager was excellent. Opal seems like a fantastic place to work!
- Could you elaborate on your experience and background?
- What motivates your interest in joining our company?
- Are you able to address a few technical questions concerning customer success project management?
