First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Opal Consulting Group.
Marketing
The whole process took about 3 days. It started with an email to set up a preliminary chat a few days later. This first chat was with the CEO, a really nice guy doing cool stuff with the company. It was just a quick 10-minute intro to the company, and I got to briefly talk about myself. Then, on the same day, I got a call to set up a second interview for the very next day. This second interview was a full day job shadow with a senior corporate trainer. I shadowed an employee, went to different businesses trying to sell Verizon services to small businesses. The trainer also asked me about myself, my background, and why I thought I'd be a good fit. At the end of the day, there was a test to see what I picked up, and then a final chat with the CEO where he shared the trainer's evaluation. It was a pretty straightforward and fast process, and I actually liked the job shadow part. I had to pass on it though because the commute would've been rough, and the pay is commission-based, so it's all on you how much you earn!
- What are your long-term career aspirations?
- Can you tell me a bit about yourself?
- What makes you a strong candidate for this position?
Intern
There were three parts to the interview process in total: a standard one-on-one meeting, a job shadow out in the field, and a final interview. The very first meeting was with the CEO, mostly to get to know you better and for them to tell you about the company. Then, the second part was a job shadow where I went out in the field with a team leader. I got to shadow a senior corporate trainer and we talked about things like career growth and pay during our lunch break. The last interview, which happened the same day, was with either the CEO or another corporate trainer. It was based on how I did on a short test and the trainer's overall impression.
- Could you share a bit about yourself?
- What are some of your favorite activities?
- Assuming everything works out, what is the earliest you could potentially begin working?
Marketing and Sales Associate
The interview process started with a preliminary chat, then two more in-depth interviews, all face-to-face. The first one, though short, was really thorough, aimed at seeing if it'd be a good fit for both sides because they don't want to waste anyone's time. They asked personal and professional questions to get to know me. Then, they explained what they're looking for in a new hire, the company's objectives, its history, what it does, and the specifics of the role. They also outlined the next steps: the second round involved a full-day job shadow, which sounded really cool and a great way to see what a day at Opal is actually like. I was expecting to set up that second round, but unfortunately, they ended up offering the job to someone else.
- What are your 5-year career aspirations?
Account Manager
I drove all the way to Alexandria, VA for a 15 minute screening interview that really should have been done over the phone. It included basic questions like asking me to talk about my experience. Then I went back for a second interview that lasted a full day, from 9:30 to 5. It turned out the position wasn't what I expected at all; it was very misleading. It was basically door-to-door sales, but to different businesses, trying to get them to sign up for Verizon/FIOS.
- Could you share your experience?
- What leadership skills do you possess?
