First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Onyx CenterSource.
Digital Content Marketing Specialist
It started with an HR person reaching out on LinkedIn. I spoke with her first, then interviewed with the Marketing Director, and finally the Demand Gen manager. I had to do a presentation where I shared my ideas for improving their old product docs creatively and editorially. I also had to show sample email and social posts and how I'd repurpose the document content. They said the interviews went great and liked the presentation. But, I got a standard rejection email the next day. The people were nice though. I appreciate how fast everything was, about a week total. Wishing them luck.
- What are your approaches to dealing with difficult leadership demands?
- How do you handle demands from leadership that are challenging?
Data Scientist
HR reached out, but there was no opening. Two months later, they contacted me again out of the blue and wanted an immediate in-person interview. I had no context about the role or the problems they were trying to solve. When I got there, three people interviewed me. They asked about my projects and how I presented solutions to people who aren't in analytics. It was clear they weren't impressed. It seems foolish to have an onsite interview before even speaking to the hiring manager or understanding the position. One manager questioned my PhD in Philosophy and Engineering, which I found absurd. I stated PhD means Doctor of Philosophy and ended the interview. A complete waste of my time.
- How do you convey model results and the underlying process to others?
- How did you present model results and the process to non-analytics folks?
- You have a Doctorate in Philosophy and Engineering?
Senior Software Engineer
The interview process had 5 rounds and was completed in 2 weeks. The first round was with the IT Director, lasting 45 minutes and was easy, basically a screening round. The second round was a 1-hour technical interview with an Architect and Senior Software Developer on the panel, focusing on High-Level Design for web applications, rated moderately difficult but not tricky. Round 3 was a 45-minute interview with a Program Manager and Infrastructure person on the panel, discussing Scrum, cross-border team interactions across time zones, and infrastructure choices like databases. This was easy if you have Scrum experience and managed web applications. Round 4 was a 45-minute interview with a Senior Business Analyst from Spain, scheduled separately to accommodate time zones, and covered similar topics as Round 3. The fifth and final round was back with the IT Director from Round 1 for 45 minutes, where he gauged my interest in the position and team, described as easy and a formality. They scheduled all rounds quickly, and I got the offer in 4 days after finishing the interviews, which I accepted.
- Can you explain autoscaling in AWS and its configuration?
- Describe how to design stateless APIs, perhaps with scenarios.
- Given a scenario, can you differentiate between Promises and Observables?
Customer Service Manager
I had a 15-minute initial interview for a management role in Customer Service. The interviewer gave a unclear overview of the company and then asked me questions that were already on my CV, like where I live and my current employer. It seemed like they hadn't read my CV and were just filling in details during the meeting, which isn't great for a management position. I was also asked to summarize my 6 years of Customer Service leadership experience in just 5 minutes. They didn't provide a salary range when I asked, which is also unusual. I'd suggest being more mindful of candidates' time, especially for leadership roles. Better ways to do this include providing clearer company info, reading CVs beforehand, scheduling longer initial interviews for manager roles, and sending basic details by email to save time for everyone.
- Can you tell me where you are currently employed?
