First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at ONI.
Manufacturing Technician
I applied online on November 20, 2025, and got an interview invitation the next day. I had my interview on December 2, 2025. I haven't received any updates or feedback on my application, even after sending two follow-up emails. It's been disheartening because I had to take time off my current job's shift to attend the interview, and the lack of communication feels like a disregard for my time. I haven't even received a generic rejection email, and the role has been reposted twice on LinkedIn since my interview. It's very unprofessional.
- What makes you want to work for ONI?
Intern
After submitting my CV and cover letter, I was invited to two interviews. The first was with HR, focusing on my motivation, personal goals, and character. The second interview was technical, with questions tailored to the specific department.
- Can you share an instance of a challenge you've successfully navigated?
- Could you detail your lab experience and present your current skill set?
Senior Software Engineer
So, it started with an external recruiter giving me the lowdown on the gig and the company. Then, an internal recruiter echoed that, adding more about the company's vision and mission. After that, I chatted with a technical lead about their tech stack, how they work, and the kind of person they're looking for. Next up was an interview with the CTO, who walked me through the product roadmap and company vision. Then came a technical take-home assessment focusing on image processing, Python, C++, and CI/CD skills, which was pretty enjoyable but took a while. Following that, I had a deep tech interview with the team where I had to present myself and my qualifications, they reviewed my take-home, and I solved a math puzzle. The take-home and technical interview were well-done. After that, another recruiter reached out, and then I interviewed with the CEO. That CEO interview was super unstructured and felt like he hadn't even seen my CV, which was a bummer given all the time invested. I waited a bit, then asked for feedback. The external recruiter told me, surprisingly, no offer because they needed someone with way more experience. When I pressed, the internal recruiter explained that the tech team loved my take-home ('top-shelf') and thought I'd be a great cultural fit, but the board decided to pause hiring because they needed more senior engineers to figure out skill gaps and plan future hiring. Big thanks to the internal recruiter for being honest. But honestly, after 6 interviews, a take-home, 2 months, and no offer, it just felt disorganized and like a waste of everyone's time and resources.
- Could you please complete a take-home assessment using Python and C++?
- For an oil well placement optimization problem, could you derive an objective function and discuss your choice of optimization algorithm?
Digital Marketing Manager
The interview process was long and felt clunky. I went through multiple stages, and some of them were out of order. I was asked to put together and submit a strategy presentation, which I did. After that, I went in and delivered the presentation. They kept me for a long time after the presentation, asking a lot of detailed questions and then they took my slides. I was later informed that the position was no longer available. It was a really poor experience, and I heard others had similar issues.
