First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at OnePay.
Software Engineer
The interview process started with a technical assessment involving a machine coding problem that was fairly easy. This was followed by a system design round. Then there was a technical discussion about projects, the experience, and the tech stack used. After that, there was a discussion with the head of engineering, and finally, a meeting with the CEO.
- Can you tell me about a logical or implementation challenge you faced in a past project?
- Walk me through the projects you've worked on.
- What tech stack did you utilize in your projects?
Software Engineer
The first step was a Karat interview, which was easy enough and handled well. The interviewer wasn't the friendliest, but it went fine. An hour later, a recruiter called to set up the next part, really happy about my performance. The second part involved reviewing a fictional application (details omitted due to a waiver) followed by a straight data modeling exercise. The interviewer was nice, but the task was unrelated to the actual job. This intense, 40-minute struggle session seemed pointless. I'd steer clear of this company; I'm probably just lucky I didn't get an offer.
- Could you model the tables for an application using Google Sheets?
Software Engineer
The interviews are conducted via Karat, with an external engineer providing coding tasks. The initial interview's problem description was excessively long and irrelevant to the actual task, which felt like a waste of time. They offer a redo option, explaining that the final decision considers both interviews, with more weight given to the better performance. The second interview was more suited for a senior role, focusing on API design rather than precise floating-point formatting. I managed to complete the first part of the second interview and was close to finishing the more complex second part when time ran out. Despite performing better in the second interview, the feedback was based on the first one.
- Fix application code to pass tests, mostly to do with floating point numbers.
- In the redo Karat interview, fix API code so tests are passing, using Java 8.
- In the redo Karat interview, write some additional code logic.
