Frontend Software Engineer
I applied for a Frontend Software Engineer position which was a staff augmentation role for Eli Lilly in Indianapolis. A recruiter reached out via email to schedule a Microsoft Teams interview. Unfortunately, the initial email lacked the Teams meeting link, which was a bit of an omen. After I pointed this out, the recruiter set up a proper meeting link. During our chat, I inquired about the role details and when Eli Lilly would be involved in the interview process. The recruiter mentioned that Lilly was looking to hire someone immediately and that my next step would be an interview with them within the 'next couple of days'. She said I should expect a call soon. However, two weeks passed with no contact. I emailed for an update, and a week after that, I got a response stating my resume hadn't been submitted to Eli Lilly due to a large number of candidates already ahead of me. It felt like a complete waste of my time.

.NET Developer
Three recruiters from SmartIT reached out to me about the same .NET Developer positions, which was a bit much given I have 7 years of experience as a .NET Developer and Architect. I ended up speaking with the final recruiter who contacted me on LinkedIn. I found him to be condescending and arrogant, especially considering his limited experience. He presented three job openings, but I only wanted him to submit my resume for one specific client I was really interested in. Two days later, I discovered through an ex-colleague that my resume had been sent for a different position without my approval. I also found out he lied about submitting me for the one role I was interested in, as my friend in HR confirmed it. This whole experience was disheartening, seeing how some recruiters treat experienced professionals. Ultimately, I got the job directly with the client I preferred, thanks to my friend's help and my own initiative in following up. I informed the recruiter about my dissatisfaction with his handling of the process, but received no response. Coincidentally, the company I joined had recently hired another Sr. .NET Developer who had previously worked at SmartIT and shared how terrible their experience was. It seems like karma. My advice for seasoned developers: consider ignoring calls from SmartIT recruiters, or at least be prepared for a potentially unpleasant interaction with an arrogant recruiter who dominates the conversation.
- Questions regarding technical aspects that were unclear.
- What are your salary expectations?
Accountant
A recruiter reached out on LinkedIn about my interest in the Staff Accountant role. We had a 30-minute phone call, after which I was invited for an interview the following week. The interview involved a quick office tour, a 30-minute meeting with the hiring manager, and a 20-25 minute chat with the CFO. The questions were mostly about me and what I've achieved. Everyone was really nice and helpful, and the company culture seemed great. The only negative was the lack of communication afterward; they said I'd hear back in a week, but after two weeks, my follow-up with the recruiter went unanswered.
- Could you describe your proficiency with Excel?
Software Developer
Had a telephonic interview and then an onsite interview with the team. They were welcoming and showed me around the office. However, the coordinator didn't reply after the interview, which is frustrating as candidates put in effort to prepare, take leave, and spend on travel.
- Can you discuss your knowledge of the tech stack in general terms?
