I was approached for a role at Onbe that seemed like a great fit for my background. The Onbe recruiter was organized, a strong communicator and had great follow-through. However, I completed the entire interview process (which was 7 interviews, including a panel interview, and a lengthy presentation that took hours to prepare) only to be ghosted. After significant follow-up, I discovered that Onbe had decided to put the role on hold and utilize internal resources in the interim. It felt like a huge waste of everyone's time to have candidates go through the entire interview process and not extend an offer to anyone. Additionally, to recruit me into the process and not follow up with me until I really pushed for feedback is a poor candidate experience. I don't blame the recruiter for this, but larger company disorganization. It feels like things worked out for the best that I was not offered a role here.

A recruiter reached out on LinkedIn about a phone screen. I felt this company demonstrated a good understanding that the interview process is a two-way street. Despite some hiccups with incorrect job descriptions being sent and scheduling conflicts, I proceeded. Drawing on my extensive experience interviewing for similar roles, I anticipated the general flow of the conversation. The recruiter was quite unique. The questions asked seemed too basic for the required 5 years of experience, more appropriate for an entry-level candidate. For example, 'Have you ever had goals you needed to reach?' was asked. The recruiter was also evasive about straightforward questions regarding the role, repeatedly stating they knew the answer but wouldn't share it, deferring to the hiring manager. This was quite strange. Adding to the oddity, they directly and somewhat rudely inquired about my continued job search post-layoff. At that point, I realized this wasn't the right fit. The offered salary was also significantly lower, at least 30k less than comparable positions, making it uncompetitive. It's rare for me to decide an interview isn't worth continuing midway, but the company's lack of professionalism and poor initial impression were clear red flags. I disengaged from the interview process at that point.

I was headhunted for this role, so the recruiter reached out on Linkedin and we had a casual, nice phone chat. Then, I had a call with my direct manager, which was also very conversational. It was about 40 minutes, maybe a bit longer since we were really getting along. For the final interview, I met with 4 people from the company one by one. It was mostly to check my skills, but I had done my homework on the company, so I could discuss the job details more thoroughly. Some questions were tough, but I'd say take your time answering; they know you might be nervous and will try to keep it relaxed. The last interview was around 3 hours (about 45 minutes with each person), but honestly, it went by super fast. I think I got the offer the same week. The recruiter kept in touch the whole time. I really liked the people, and I'm happy to say the great company culture was still there when I started.

So, this role's title seemed a bit off, like maybe they just inflated it. The recruiter didn't talk about projects at all, only a 'queue.' When I asked about technical stuff, she was clueless. All she could say was 'collaborative' and 'innovative.' It sounded like you'd just do whatever was in this queue, old or new. She even said it was like a helpdesk job. She kept asking me for details about my past roles without really understanding what an integration even is. The process, she said, involves a screen, a personality test, a manager interview, and then three separate interviews with three different team members. That's five rounds total.
