Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Olson.
Intern
This was a pretty easy interview process. I spoke with 3 different people, and while they were all really nice, they seemed unprepared and a bit disorganized. They said I'd hear back by the end of the first week, but it actually took them almost three weeks. Overall, the interviewers were very pleasant but not super prepared. The process itself felt pretty standard and wasn't bad.
- Can you describe your typical daily responsibilities in your past role?
Intern
It started with a 30 minute phone call where they asked about my background, why I was interested in PR, what news I followed, and specifically why I was interested in Olson. Then there was an in-person interview. It was an hour long with 10-15 minute intervals meeting with two people. After that, there was a writing test. For the test, I had to draft an email pitch, make a short media list, and write about how I'd research a potential client's media usage. Everyone was super nice and awesome! I really enjoyed talking with everyone and would recommend this process for college students wanting PR experience. They're cool with people who don't have PR experience, you just gotta show you're eager to work there.
- Can you tell me why you're interested in public relations?
- Could you share which campaigns from Olson you admire and explain your reasoning?
- How do you manage your time effectively?
Intern
I had a half hour phone interview first. Then I was asked to come into the office. I met with about 12 different people who came in intervals of 10 minutes in groups of 2-3. The interview lasted an hour, and there was also an hour long writing test which involved writing a pitch and describing a strategy for a client solution.
- Can you describe yourself in 3 words?
