First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Ollie’s Bargain Outlet.
Sales Associate
The interview was super quick. They just asked about my availability and if I had any experience. I was pretty much hired on the spot. This is great for people with little to no experience.
- Can you tell me about your availability?
- What experience do you have?
Assistant Buyer
It was a really thorough interview process and they were super transparent and informative from the beginning. Even though I didn't get the job, the HR/hiring coordinator still called me after to explain why I wasn't selected and to thank me for my time. The process started with a phone screening, followed by two in-person interviews with the people I would have been working with. It was pretty formal, but also kind of casual because we had some good conversation and got to know each other beyond just the interview questions.
- What are others' professional and personal descriptions of you?
Sales Associate
I first filled out a paper application in the store and gave it to the hiring manager. She said she'd contact me in a week. When I checked back after a week, they were still hiring and hadn't reviewed my application yet, saying they'd get back to me in another week. A week later, I called again, and they still hadn't looked through their applications because they were short-staffed. I stopped pursuing it, but a friend told me to try again since the hiring manager was on vacation and the Store Team Leader might be more responsive. I called back a month later, they said they lost my application and asked me to reapply. I went in and filled out another one. The Store Leader interviewed me on the spot. I got hired the next day! It seems to depend on who's in charge. The store finally got the staff it needed because the Store Team Leader reviewed applications and interviewed candidates while the hiring manager was away.

- What did your last employer like about you?
- What makes you want to work at Ollie's?
Asset Protection Leader
Started with a recruiter reaching out on LinkedIn, then a phone screen with HR. After that, I had an in-person interview with a former VP of Loss Prevention. Then there were more in-person interviews at store locations with a district team leader and another district AP leader. The stores themselves weren't great, kind of messy and unorganized. The whole thing took about 4 weeks. I got a phone offer from HR that detailed salary, bonus, and stock options, but I never actually got the stock bonus, which they claimed was due to a technicality and never fixed, costing me about 50k in promised stock.
- Tell me about yourself.
- What motivated you to apply for this position?
- What do you consider your greatest assets and areas for development?
