First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Oliver Wyman.
Actuarial Consultant
I had four interviews: first with a manager, then a principal, followed by a partner, and finally the head partner. Each interview focused on motivation, industry understanding, and a "walk me through your CV" type of discussion. They were particularly interested in my coding abilities and asked multiple times about how they would be relevant to the role.
- What is your motivation for pursuing actuarial consulting as a career path?
- Could you elaborate on how your coding skills align with the requirements of this position?
Actuarial
I applied through my university for the Actuarial role. The first stage was a phone interview with mostly behavioral questions and one probability question. Then there was an onsite round with the entire team. It had 4 back-to-back interviews. Some interviews were technical, involving an Excel problem and describing how I would approach a hypothetical problem. Other interviews focused on personality and cultural fit. One interview was unique and consisted entirely of brain teasers that required good assumptions and strict logic. I really enjoyed the whole process and meeting the intelligent and diverse team, which was evident from the varied questions asked.
- Can you give me an overview of your resume?
- Could you elaborate on your previous internship experiences?
- What specific tasks did you handle during your internships?
Actuarial Intern
The interview started with a casual 30-minute initial phone call. The interviewer was friendly and easy to talk to. We discussed my academic background, some technical skills, and I was asked a few questions related to FM topics. Then, within a week, I had a 30-45 minute video call that was more technical than I expected, focusing on IFM. Following that, I was given an offline case study involving Excel, which I had to submit and then present for about an hour.
- Can you explain how to hedge a call option?
