First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Oliff.
Associate
I met with 3-4 partners and the HR administrator. We discussed the firm's online reputation, addressing some negative reviews I had found. They were candid about it but explained that the reviews were old and didn't represent the company culture now. They also clearly stated expectations for core working hours and a mandatory lunch from 12 to 1, detailing how that system works at their firm.
- What is your motivation for leaving your current role?
Associate Attorney
This wasn't really an interview process, more of a meet-and-greet. It started with two or three phone interviews where we discussed my background. Then, they flew me to their main office in Alexandria, Virginia, asking on a Thursday or Friday if I could fly out the following Tuesday. I met with a head partner who seemed stressed, and then he introduced me to about five or six long-term employees. They seemed surprised to meet me, as if they didn't know I was coming for an interview. I got to chat with each of them before moving on to the next. Lastly, an HR representative told me if I'd be meeting the executive board the next morning. This meeting, in a boardroom, involved questions about my resume, which I felt was just a formality.
- Tell me about yourself, as asked multiple times.
Associate
The interview process spanned two days and was quite straightforward. On the first day, I had one-on-one meetings with the hiring partner and about five or six associates. We discussed my law school and undergraduate experiences. The hiring partner then determined if I would proceed to the second day, where I would meet with the Executive Committee (EC), which consists of the partners. They asked me a series of questions. It wasn't overly challenging or nerve-wracking.
- Were there any unexpected questions?
- Were you expected to know the technical aspects?
Support Specialist
I had a bit of a weird experience. They weren't upfront about salary, and communication was pretty bad before and after the interview. The person I spoke with was nice enough, but didn't really sell the company or the job to me.
- Tell me about your past experiences.
- This job involves a lot of hassle.
