I got a tour of the athletic facilities and then interviewed with the staff, coaches, and department heads I'd be working with. They also provided lunch. I contributed by bringing in paperwork with ideas I'd generated for their programs. Even though ODU picked someone else, it was still enjoyable and gave me a good feeling about continuing my job search.

So, I got an email for a first-round interview. I confirmed the time, but I also asked if it would be technical. The recruiter totally ignored my question, which I actually sent twice. They only replied when I confirmed the time. I asked because I wanted to be ready. Some interviews don't have technical questions, but this one did. The interview was on Zoom, but we had to keep cameras off. They jumped right into technical questions, not even asking for an introduction. The questions were pretty basic, and the interviewers seemed nice, but the communication with the recruiter was rough. I would've prepared better if I'd known what to expect.

I applied for the job in Dec 2017 and heard nothing. They reposted it in Feb 2018 and I applied again. I got a call in April 2018 for a telephone interview with a panel of Counselors. It was straightforward, basic questions. A week later, I was invited for an ALL DAY interview. It involved a presentation (3 weeks prep time given) and lasted from 9am to 3pm. The day included a panel interview, a case conceptualization, a 1:1 lunch/interview with the assistant director, a presentation, and interviews with front office staff. The team was inviting and pleasant. The worst part was the lack of communication after the interview. I was told I'd hear back within several weeks. After 8 weeks, I called the Director who said they were still interviewing. I saw online someone was hired. I emailed the Assistant Director a few weeks later with no reply. Finally, after 6+ months, I got a "sorry you weren't selected" email. This is unprofessional for a University of this magnitude. It's absurd to have candidates prepare for an all-day interview for weeks and then not get timely feedback.

I interviewed with three people via WebEx for about 30 minutes. They said they'd follow up in two weeks, but I didn't hear back, so I emailed them. One person responded that it's a 'continuous recruitment' and I'd be notified when it was filled. I followed up again a few weeks later with no response. Meanwhile, I found out the position was filled. Honestly, their follow-up is unreliable, and 'continuous recruitment' jobs can drag on for months. They don't seem to take candidates seriously, which probably reflects their work culture.
