The interview was conducted over Zoom, and there was also a writing assignment that was quite difficult, but it's best to take your time with it. Aside from that, the staff were friendly and helpful. The interview itself lasted about an hour and a half, so be prepared and make sure you have a computer ready.

So for the interview process, I sat down and interviewed with two different individuals. Both were looking for another child welfare specialist for their team. They interviewed me at the same time, and then I was taken to a room to do a writing assessment. The writing assessment is to make sure that you are able to write documents well and also gets a good understanding of how you think and view child safety.

Since I've worked there for a while, I've seen some of the interview panels myself. Typically, hiring managers choose who will interview candidates. They pick employees from their own department, from other departments, or from other state agencies to form an interview panel, usually 3-5 people. These panels then ask standard interview questions like 'What are your strengths, weaknesses, how do you handle stress, and why do you want this job?' Getting a job offer can take anywhere from a few weeks to a couple of months, depending on your potential start date.

The first interview had a bit of a delay after my scheduled time, and they were really sorry about it, explaining they were running behind. The interview panel had two ladies, one from CPS and one from permanency planning. They were both super nice and friendly. The questions were specific, making me think about my past experiences related to the job. The second interview was way more chill. The hiring manager was really nice and told me about the CWS roles and what training is needed.

  • Please share a scenario from your experience that relates to this role.
  • What are the duties associated with the CWS position?
