The interview was pretty relaxed. I met with the department chair and the dean. We went over my resume and they asked me some questions about it. We talked about what they expect and the class schedule. It was all pretty organized and went smoothly. They showed me around the facility and we discussed what would happen next.

Applied and got an interview in a couple days. Had a panel interview with my potential supervisor, two other department folks, and an HR person. They asked good questions that weren't too hard, seemed more focused on my skills and interest than tricky stuff. Got an offer a week later and took it. Super nice people throughout the whole thing.

I took a day off work, without pay because I work hourly, for an interview that barely lasted 20 minutes, even though the HR person said in an email to allow one hour for it. I was told it would be a group interview, but had no idea there would be six people so I wasn't able to bring the needed amount of work samples, extra resumes, etc. If I had it to do over again, I'd also ask the HR person exactly how many and with whom who I would be interviewing. I thought the questions, conducted round-table style, were on a high-school level. The lead person in the group verbally promised me some follow-up info but never got back to me or answered my email I sent shortly after the interview. General atmosphere was pretty civil aside from a total lack of humor, but one of the people in the group reacted to my request for follow-up information with a sharp tone that would have been more appropriate for a student misbehaving in the classroom or an employee who did something wrong. I was there as a guest of the college, not an employee or a student.

The interview process began with a standard phone interview. After that, I was invited to campus for a face-to-face and group interviews. The total time spent on campus was about 5 hours, including lunch. Ultimately, I declined the offer because they wouldn't reimburse for travel and the pay was below market.

Confirmed questions3 questions
  • What are your thoughts on leadership?
  • What is your vision for the future of the department?
  • They offered 5k over a 9 mo. faculty pay for 12 mo plus teaching responsibilities. Kept waiting for them to say they wanted me to mow the grass.
