First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Oil India.
Senior Officer
The interview process involved several stages. Initially, there was a recruiter call. This was followed by a technical screen focusing on protection relays, covering topics like protection types, distinguishing overcurrent from overload, and understanding grounding faults. Then, an induction motor section delved into maximum torque slip, starting torque problems, and speed control using VFDs. A synchronous motor discussion covered synchronization conditions (V/F/P), excitation for power factor control, and the reason for their lack of self-starting. Finally, there was a link to a microgrid project and a presentation, with a recommendation to practice SJVN mocks thoroughly.
- What is your motivation for working at Oil India and in a remote location?
Electrical Officer
The interview process involved an online test followed by a group discussion (GD) and then an interview. The GD counted for 5% of the total weightage, the interview for 10%, making the interview part 15% in total. The remaining 85% was from written interview questions, primarily focusing on machine and power system protection, along with some practical questions about machines and switchgear.
- What is the difference between Earthing and Grounding?
Senior Software Engineer
This was for campus recruitment. It went pretty smoothly, the panel seemed really chill and supportive. They weren't grilling anyone at all, mostly just asked HR-type questions. But honestly, the outcome felt kind of random, like it didn't really match how people did in the interview; it almost felt like decisions were made beforehand to some extent.
- Could you tell me a little about yourself?
Executive Trainee
After I cleared the written exam about a month ago, I was invited for a Group Discussion and Personal Interview on the same day in December 2010. The GD topic was about Indo-American relations following Obama's visit. After the GD, I proceeded to the Personal Interview, which lasted for about half an hour. The panel seemed quite impressed with my published research papers.
- Can you elaborate on your technical and personal achievements?
- Could you explain your understanding and experience with distillation?
- What are your motivations for joining the Production department?
