First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Office Practicum.
Accounting/Finance Intern
Had a virtual interview scheduled for thirty minutes with three team members from the finance and accounting team. The interview only lasted for ten minutes and I mostly asked the questions. It felt like they didn't really give me the time to explain my experiences.
- Can you tell us about your previous work experience?
- What makes you interested in finance and accounting?
- On a scale of 1 to 10, how would you rate your Excel skills?
Configuration Analyst
It was a 2-tier interview process. First, I interviewed with the team and we really clicked. Then, I had a second interview with the Director. While that went okay, it felt like she had already made up her mind about not wanting me and was just waiting for me to slip up on a question to justify ending the call, even though I was answering everything perfectly. Honestly, a director shouldn't even be interviewing candidates for these types of roles unless they're going to be their direct report. I missed out on a job I would have been great at, all because of the Director's personal biases about who she wanted for the position.

Medical Billing Specialist
I wish I had researched this company more before applying. They used to be Connexin Software but changed their name to escape bad reviews. The interview was a group interview with 2 rounds on the same day. The 3 senior recruiters were nice, but the 2 junior recruiters (less than a year experience) were rude and unprofessional, giving me attitudes and making me feel stupid. They seemed determined to prove I wasn't qualified by asking provocative questions, rolling their eyes, and shaking their heads. I was uncomfortable the entire time, which is unusual for me. The HR department is so important because they represent the company; their behavior would deter potential hires.
- They asked for behavioral examples and wanted elaborate stories, suggesting I should fabricate experiences rather than state what I would do.
- Despite advertising for entry-level candidates, they posed highly technical questions requiring extensive medical billing experience.
- They emphasized a need for extensive experience in pediatrics and IT, and showed a preference for male candidates with IT skills and prior pediatric experience.
Trainer
It started with a telephone interview with the HR director, just to check I got what the job was about. After that, I had another phone call with the Director of Training, who asked me why I wanted to be a trainer and to show them I could train people on the software. Then, I went in for an in-person meeting with some of the people I'd be working with.
- Can you share an instance where you encountered a particularly challenging staff situation and describe how you resolved it?
