Analyst
It was a two-round interview process. The first round was with the hiring manager and team members. It was mostly informal, discussing technical skills, time management, and how I would approach different hypothetical situations. All calls were via Zoom.
- Can you share details about your professional background?
- What are your technical proficiencies?
- How do you manage your time effectively?
Underwriting Intern
The interview was about 45 minutes. It started with introductions from everyone, then they asked me questions. They told me about the company in the middle and I got to ask questions. Then they asked a few more questions. I got another chance to ask questions at the end.
- Tell me about your biggest weakness.
Cloud Engineer
I was approached by a recruiter for the job. The whole process involved 4 interview rounds and 1 extra logistics call, all done via video over about a month and a half. The first call was with their Infrastructure Lead, but it got rescheduled last minute because he had jury duty and didn't let the recruiter know he was changing the time. So, the recruiter and I ended up on a call for 20 minutes waiting for someone to respond. Eventually, someone from the office got back to us with the info and we rescheduled for the next week. The actual first round went well, so they scheduled a more technical call with another Senior Engineer for round two. That call also went well, and they wanted to move me to the next round. For the third round, I spoke with their Technology VP. It took them over a week to give the recruiter a time, but the call eventually went smoothly. After that, I got a soft offer and was told I just needed a call with HR for procedure. The HR call was delayed another week. When we finally connected, the HR rep started another interview round, which wasn't expected since it was supposed to be about logistics and benefits, but I went with it. After that call, I was told they would officially extend an offer. Another week or so went by with delays from HR, with the recruiter barely getting responses from them. Finally, I got an email from the HR rep with another soft offer. The pay was $10k lower than we discussed, and the title was just Cloud Engineer instead of Senior Cloud Engineer, which was the role I interviewed for. I said I was still interested but asked for clarification on those two points. She said she'd call the manager and let me know if they were correct before the end of the day. No response until the next day when they rescinded the offer via email, with no explanation other than they didn't like my response. The recruiter, sounding sorry and confused, tried to find out what happened because they were ghosting me. The HR rep told the recruiter that I didn't sound enthusiastic enough about the job offer. The recruiter mentioned that if I wanted to write them a letter to apologize for my perceived lack of enthusiasm, they might reconsider me, but I declined, saying I couldn't imagine working there pleasantly after this experience and refused to apologize for a perceived slight.
- Can you share an example of a past project that was similar, or tell me how you'd handle a difficult stakeholder?
- How would you approach a stubborn stakeholder?
Underwriting Associate
It was a really long process. First, I spoke to a recruiter who was very helpful. Then, I had a superday where I met five different people. They also asked for a writing sample. After that, I met with another manager. About three months after I applied, one of the managers invited me to lunch. Then, after I kept asking about an update, I got ghosted. Everyone seemed too busy to respond, which was unprofessional and disrespectful of my time. They also asked where else I was applying way too often.
