Research Technician
I chatted with a recruiter first, then the hiring manager. The recruiter asked pretty typical interview questions, like 'Tell me about yourself.' With the hiring manager, it was more of a conversation where I got to ask them questions about the job and the workplace instead of them asking me a lot. The whole thing from applying to interviewing was pretty quick and they communicated clearly the whole time.
- What is your understanding of our company?
- What motivates your interest in this specific role?
- Could you describe your experience that is relevant to this position?
Research Technician
The process started with a recruiter screening call to discuss my background and why I was interested in the role. Next, I had a chat with the hiring manager who mainly talked about the lab's structure and research, asking just a few things about my experience with specific lab techniques. The final step was a 'meet and greet' at the site and lab, where I met the team members and toured the facilities. It didn't feel like an interview, and hardly any questions were asked; I think it was more to see if I'd be a good fit personality-wise and to let me see what they do and the environment. The whole thing was pretty quick and the recruiter was responsive, but it felt like they mostly decided based on my resume and listed skills, since the interviews weren't very in-depth and didn't really cover teamwork or behavioral aspects, nor did they deeply explore my willingness to learn new skills beyond asking about my current experience with the desired ones. I heard back within about three weeks.
- What are your long-term career goals and how long do you see yourself in this role?
Software Engineer
Interviews are typically broken down into these 5 stages: Introductions, Small Talk, Information Gathering, Question/Answer, and Wrapping Up. Understanding these steps helps your company standardize its interview process, leading to better, more qualified hires over the long term. Standardizing the interview process helps interviewers and recruiters make fairer comparisons between candidates, as each candidate will go through the same interview process. Below is a more detailed breakdown of every stage in the interview process.
- The questions were easy, but demonstrated a clear understanding of concepts.
HR Director
This interview process was disorganized and dysfunctional. They brought candidates in during a global pandemic and didn't provide feedback to final candidates, which shows how they treat people. If they can't follow up with feedback for an HR Director role, how will they treat their employees? They say they are concerned with employee morale and culture, but the interview process shows something very different! It was completely dysfunctional. Stay away!
