First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Odessa College.
Social Services Coordinator
The interview process was lengthy because the president had to be present for the second interview. The first interview was a panel with several people asking various questions.
- Can you share an instance where you assisted someone?
Student Services
First up is a phone screen with the HR Hiring Manager. If that goes well, you'll then be set up to chat with a hiring committee. This committee is usually 5-6 folks, including the department supervisor, some people from the department you're applying to, and a couple of others from different departments on campus. After that, if you're still in the running, the President of the college has the final say after your 3rd and last interview with them.
- Can you describe your experience assisting students within a higher education setting?
- In your opinion, what are the primary difficulties faced by college students today?
- Imagine a student confides in you about personal struggles impacting their academics, causing them to fall behind. How would you approach a conversation with this student?
Mathematics Instructor
This was my first time interviewing with Odessa College. The interview was conducted over Zoom with a committee of about 5-6 people, including the Math department Chair, another math instructor, and the Dean of Arts and Sciences. They mostly asked me questions about my willingness to participate in student activities, what I'd be willing to teach, and my online teaching experience. There wasn't a teaching demonstration. I was told the college president makes the final hiring decision.
- Could you introduce yourself?
- Are you open to participating in student activities?
Instructor
The first round was a Skype call. Then, there was a second round which involved a presentation and a panel interview with the president. Both rounds were panel interviews. The president was really intense, and there was a lot of pressure to accept the job at the end. They did mention this could happen in the first round. They only offered me $200 to cover travel expenses since I came from two states away.
- Why are you interested in working at OC?
