I had an initial telephone chat with a recruiter, then a technical chat with two engineering leads. After that, I did a take-home assessment that I finished in a week. Then they reviewed my take-home assessment, and finally, I had a chat with the CTO.

I applied for 3 front-end developer roles at Octopus Energy over 3 months and got rejected with emails saying they hired others with more specific experience. The same jobs were posted again a week after closing. I'm a boot camp grad trying to switch careers, with years of experience from a related field. A month after my rejection, someone from my boot camp got hired there, also transitioning from another industry with no prior dev experience. I'm confused why my applications weren't even screened or given a tech test. The rejection emails said to keep an eye out for new roles, and I reached out for feedback but got no reply. I've stopped applying to Octopus because I felt unwanted.

The entire hiring journey, from the initial conversation to the final offer, wrapped up in about three weeks and felt pretty straightforward. Everyone I interacted with during the hiring process was friendly and easy to talk to. Here's how it went down: 1. Recruiter call: A relaxed chat with the technical recruiter where we went over my background and I got more details about the job and the company. 2. Intro call with the FE Engineering Lead: This was a chance to dive deeper into my experience and ask about ongoing projects, the tech stack, and how they work. 3. Coding challenge. 4. Technical interview with the FE Engineering Lead and a FE developer: We reviewed the code task, then I answered some technical questions, and we finished with a Q&A to give me a better feel for the product, team, role, and company. 5. A final conversation with the CEO.
