Technical Behavioral

It was a pretty standard interview process. I started with a recruiter from Octo, and then I went straight into a technical interview with two managers. The interview lasted a while; the first five questions were basic technical ones, and then the next fifteen were more in-depth to assess my experience and critical thinking skills.

Technical Coding

It was an hour long review of my skills. The issue came up when they surprised me with a programming test at the end. I usually decline these tests since they don't reflect my work and can be tough. As expected, I saw the test and it required me to program six different solutions, each with an 8-minute time limit. That's not feasible for me. I've completed many tasks over the past 5 years and I don't want to be treated this way. I have broad knowledge but am not an expert in any one thing. I decided within 3 minutes that this wasn't for me. I closed it and emailed them. I'm content with my current job. You contacted me, I wasn't actively searching.

Behavioral Technical

The recruiter contacted me and talked about the job, then sent my resume to the hiring manager. I had an interview that same week. The interview was virtual and there were two interviewers. It felt okay, I talked about my background. But the main interviewer seemed uninterested, and the other person barely asked questions. When I asked about onboarding, the main interviewer rambled and didn't answer well. They seemed uninterested at the end too. A few hours later, the recruiter said they weren't moving forward due to my 'lack' of experience, which doesn't make sense since they saw my resume and it's a junior role. I suspect this was diversity slating, where they interview minority candidates but don't genuinely consider them. It feels like they hired a non-black person and wasted my time.

Behavioral Technical Presentation

They had a an initial telephone interview, then an in face interview with 2 people. The first person asked some technical questions. The second person asked more general management questions, They ask ed for three strengths and three weaknesses. I couldn't come up with three weaknessess, but they insisted, so I had to come up with something. They then contacted me for a presentation in front of about 7 people.I had to come up with a whole Agile Program using JIRA, and present a brief bio of myself, and how the Porgram would be done. It was a bit of work. I used a demo version of Jira to do it, and had to make up user stories, assign points, chart velocity, etc.
