First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Ocean Properties Hotels and Resorts.
Property Sales Manager
I was head-hunted by a recruiter and spoke with them and the corporate regional director, who was quite difficult, demanding, and argumentative. The corporate office at Ocean told me exactly what I needed to hear to accept the job, but then they changed everything once I started working. It was a terrible experience and a complete waste of my time, and the recruiter was left in the dark about all of it by corporate.
- Were you asked to sign a 2-year non-compete upon joining?
- Was the non-compete disclosed during hiring?
Sales Manager
I turned in my resume at the place. About a week or so later, they called me. I had to go fill out an application there. Then, I had to meet with the HR person. After that, I met with the manager I'd be working under, for about half an hour, at a restaurant. Lastly, I met with the general manager in his office, also for about 30 minutes. A bit over a week later, they called and offered me the job and told me to go get a drug test. Make sure you get a signed paper about what you agreed on.
- The HR and managers seemed to be evaluating my personality and getting a sense of who I am.
Banquet Server
Saw an ad on Craigslist for a banquet server at the Marriott, which is part of Ocean Properties. The F&B Manager called me a few days later and told me to come in person to fill out an application. I did that and waited a week. Then the F&B Manager called again saying he wants to move forward and asked me to come in to fill out some paperwork. This paperwork was a single sheet to allow them to contact previous employers, which felt redundant after the initial application. The manager then said I'd have to come in again to meet with him and the General Manager, making it 4 total visits. This seems like a lot for a banquet server role. The manager also mentioned needing someone for the front lobby "Bistro" and let it slip that it pays minimum wage ($7.79/hour), which is much lower than I make at another job ($15/hour) and below market rate for Florida during the holidays. It feels like a bait-and-switch, and the pay isn't competitive.
- It's not rocket science, it's banquet serving.
- Manager was vague and unprepared.
- Seemed preoccupied with something and in the interview it was revealed he really needed a different type of position and that one paid minimum wage ($7.79 hour).
Front Desk Agent
It was a super easy process. First, I spoke with the HR Manager, and then I interviewed with the department manager. They asked me basic questions, and if they liked me, they called me.
- Can you tell me about your weaknesses?
