First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Occidental College.
Director of Campus Safety
I got an email from the recruiter to have an online chat about my application. They asked some basic questions. After our meeting before Thanksgiving, the recruiter asked me to be patient and that they weren't ghosting me. They did ghost me though. I even sent a follow-up email later to say I was still interested. I found out later they hired the person who was acting in the role permanently. I never heard back.
- Can you tell me where you get your news from?
Case Manager
The interview process was comprehensive and easy to go through. They asked scenario-based questions and several short answer questions. The reality of the role isn't quite as structured as the interviewer made it sound. I'd suggest asking more detailed questions about the training and how to get started in the role.
- Tell me about your experience managing caseloads and with case management.
- How do you approach student support?
Associate Director
I got an email to do a Zoom interview and set up a time, which they confirmed fast. Three people I'd be working with or who'd supervise me interviewed me. They introduced themselves, and I got a rundown of their jobs, the position, the department, and the college's vibe. We talked for about 30-40 minutes, and they asked 5-7 questions about my background, why I wanted the job, and how I'd fit in, plus some scenario questions asking for examples of what I've done. I got to ask questions at the end too. They said I'd hear back in 1-2 weeks, but it's been 2 weeks and still nothing, so I'm guessing I didn't get it.
- Could you introduce yourself, discuss your previous experience, explain your interest in this role, and detail your qualifications for it?
Coordinator
The interview process was unorganized and lackluster. I had to coordinate my own interview as a result of Occidental's inability. Questions were unclear and had no value nor allowed me to share my assets as a potential team member. It honestly felt like a complete waste of time, on top of the interviewees being rude. I did not get an offer, but I am happy I did not as a result of this difficult process and the knowledge that the energy of the team was simply bad.
- How do you make decisions?
- Where are you located?
