I interviewed for a Software Engineer role at OCBC. The interviews themselves were pretty good, the people were nice and the discussions were interesting. But, I was really unhappy with the salary part at the end. I told them what I make now right from the start. They still went through all the interview rounds, which made me take time off my current job. Then, when they made an offer, the salary was way less than I'm currently earning. It felt like a waste of my time since they knew my salary expectations. Companies should really check salaries upfront before wasting a candidate's time. It's only fair. I can't suggest this process unless they fix the salary screening.

Technical Coding

The interview was a technical interview. They asked a lot of questions about Java, Spring Boot, and MySQL. There were two interviewers from India. One asked good technical questions, but the other seemed much less experienced. I managed to answer all the questions and kept asking them questions until they got tired, but I did answer everything they asked. It felt like they were biased towards Indians. My second bad experience with this. I asked about my mistakes or areas for improvement, but they couldn't give me an answer and said they would let me know later. I still haven't heard back. If there's an Indian on the panel, don't bother applying. Even if you get 100%, they'll reject you. The industry needs to address this issue.
