First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Oakwood Laboratories.
Engineer
It was a lengthy interview process that spanned several days. The HR team seemed disorganized and lacked professionalism. The company's leadership didn't appear to have much grasp of business principles or a strong scientific/engineering background, so I felt like I was the one teaching them. They have a few standard products that were apparently created by chance through a 'patented' method.
- Can you explain your knowledge of micro-sphere formation?
Formulation Engineer
I had a Microsoft Teams Meeting with the CEO. We talked about my background, how I could contribute to the team, and my career goals. They gave me an overview of the company, their business, and future plans, and then we had time for my questions.
- How does your experience align with Oakwood's work?
Chemist
If you are not an ex-Ben Venue Labs (BVL) employee, don't bother applying. I went through two days of interviews only to find out I wasn't qualified. Turns out, I wasn't qualified because I didn't work at BVL. It seems like all the hiring managers are ex-employees from that company. They bring in people from 'Outside' for show, even though they're set on hiring a former colleague. This isn't the company's fault, it's the senior managers. A friend there told me all new hires, especially at the Solon facility, are from BVL. It's like BVL nepotism is a thing. They have a friend in mind, hire them, and they start within a week. They might bring in one other person to make it look like a fair process. Hey Oakwood, BVL closed for a reason. I'd hate to see the same happen to you. There are other extremely qualified people who didn't work at BVL. Maybe you should look at your senior management and rethink your business practices.
- Can you discuss your previous work experience?
Biomedical Engineer
Applied online and got a response about 3 weeks later. They set up a virtual interview for the following week with someone from the team. It lasted around 30 minutes.
- What would be your ideal job?
- What led you to choose biomedical engineering?
